Our Team

Balsam Academy has a solid staff strength, which includes teachers, administrative staff, Support (manual) staff and Senior Leadership Team members. The school attracts and retains highly qualified and dedicated staff.

We have always believed that exquisite instruction matters more than anything else that happens in a school. It is so inspiring to see our teachers light up about a subject with our amazing students and pushing them to do the hard thinking for themselves. It is teachers who make a school great. We see them as intellectuals, and we believe it is incumbent upon schools to provide teachers with opportunities to collaborate, to reflect, and to continually learn.

Our teachers teach 'by love' – love for their subject, love for their students, love for the sacred work of shaping minds and nurturing souls. When we began, we set out to attract the best and brightest minds. We have accomplished that – our school is filled with the most brilliant, driven, fun, passionate teachers in the field. Together, we are building a school that inspires us to fall in love with teaching again and again each year.

The non-teaching team comprises of staff with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with high standards and attention to detail. They maintain a benchmark in hygiene, cleanliness, safety and security of all family members. The school functions smoothly because of their organisational skills, including planning, prioritising and working to deadlines. Their ability to deal with visitors and parents in a friendly manner and with tact and diplomacy when required is appreciated. All support staff can cope with a varied and demanding workload and this they do with an ability to establish good working relationships, sense of humour and a can-do-attitude. They stay committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children at the enhanced level as well as compliance with the school regulations.

A robust, transparent and accessible continuous development programme is in place for all members of staff. The school allocates substantial funds to this programme on an annual basis as it believes that staff are the school’s most significant resource. The aim of the CPD is to ensure the constant upgrading of staff competencies and their alignment with global standards. An annual performance development system allows for ongoing review of standards and professional growth.

Balsam Academy is committed to achieving equality of opportunity in the recruitment and selection of staff. We recruit and retain the best possible staff. Teaching positions and administrative positions are filled locally.

A collegial way of working, empathy, consistency in approach and maintaining high standards are the basic tenets of the HR practices followed at Balsam Academy which help, in turn, to achieve and promote an environment of consistent high quality in learning and teaching. Staff employed at the school must meet the highest standards of responsible and respectful behaviour. A Staff Code of Conduct clearly outlines the behaviour that is expected of all staff in the performance of their duties and when interacting with wider community. Staff members are accountable to students and their families, colleagues and the wider community.
